New Delhi:- The Enforcement Directorate on Friday raided the premises of former Bihar minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Alok Mehta. The ED team is simultaneously raiding around 19 locations in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Delhi. This action is being taken in the loan fraud case of Rs 85 crore in Vaishali Urban Development Cooperative Bank. This case is related to fake loan accounts, fake documents and money laundering. A large number of documents are being examined in the raid.
The matter is related to loan fraud and money laundering
Alok Mehta is accused of taking about 400 fake loans in collaboration with bank officials. Based on these accounts, funds were wrongly distributed using fake and fake warehouse and LIC receipts. Apart from this, there have also been allegations of hiding and embezzling the fraud money through money laundering. There is also a possibility of many senior officers being implicated in this matter.
Raids at 19 locations in four states
ED also raided the government and private residences of Alok Mehta in Patna and Hajipur in Bihar. Apart from this, investigation is also going on in Kolkata of West Bengal, Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. By taking action simultaneously at all the locations, evidence is being collected against the accused. The ED team is now investigating the documents and evidence found from these places. In such a situation, it is possible that major arrests may be made in this case soon.
ED raids create stir, politics intensifies
There is a stir in Bihar after the ED raid. Discussion has intensified in political circles regarding the raid on the premises of Alok Mehta, a leader close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Many types of reactions are emerging among RJD leaders and workers regarding this raid. RJD leaders have termed this action as a conspiracy by the Modi government at the Center and the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in the state. At the same time, JDU and BJP leaders of Bihar have taken a dig at RJD.
Neeraj Kumar targeted RJD
JDU spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar took a jibe at RJD over ED raid on Alok Mehta's premises. Neeraj Kumar said that this is actually the effect of the association of Lalu Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav. ED tightening its grip on Alok Mehta is proof that the Enforcement Directorate is becoming active against the leaders of the Grand Alliance.

RJD spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari said that this action against Alok Mehta has been taken due to political vendetta. This is a political conspiracy. Tiwari said that the ruling parties at the Center and the state are trying to target opposition leaders.
Alok Mehta is considered close to Lalu Yadav.
Alok Mehta is counted among the powerful leaders of Bihar. Mehta is considered one of the big leaders of Rashtriya Janata Dal. Alok Mehta is considered a close associate of Lalu Yadav. Alok Mehta's father Tulsi Prasad Mehta had also been a minister in Lalu Yadav's government. Alok Mehta has served as minister of many important departments in the grand alliance government. Alok Mehta has taken charge of the Revenue and Land Reforms Department. Alok Mehta has also been an MLA from Ujiarpur seat of Samastipur.
Fraud in Vaishali Urban Development Cooperative Bank
ED's investigation is related to Vaishali Shahri Vikas Cooperative Bank, where news of a scam of Rs 85 crore was revealed. A big fraud was done in this bank in the name of loan. Investigation revealed that funds were withdrawn from the bank using fake loan accounts and fake documents. In the investigation of ED, this matter has now turned into a big case of corruption. Involvement of bank officers and big businessmen is also coming to light in this. It is alleged that these people together embezzled government money. After this, all the money was diverted here and there through money laundering.
