Big action by PCB after shameful performance in T20 World Cup, fine of lakhs on every player

Tezzbuzz Desk- After the disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan has taken a big and tough decision. The board has decided to impose a fine of Pakistani rupees 50 lakh on each player of the team. This step was taken immediately after the team’s exit from the tournament and now the PCB itself will recover this amount from the players’ salaries and match fees.

This decision is also in discussion because despite the continuous poor results in recent years, such a big financial action has rarely been seen. Pakistan team could not reach the semi-finals this time also. This is the fourth consecutive ICC tournament when the team has failed to make the last four.

Pakistan was out of the Super-8 stage in the T20 World Cup 2026. The team played all its matches in Sri Lanka, but could not take advantage of the home-like conditions. Pakistan started the tournament with a 3-wicket win against Netherlands, although this match was also very close. After this, USA was defeated by 32 runs, but the real test came in big matches.

Pakistan had to face defeat by 61 runs against the Indian national cricket team, which broke the team’s momentum. Somehow, even after reaching Super-8, there was no improvement in performance. The match against New Zealand was washed out due to rain, while England made it difficult for Pakistan by defeating them by 2 wickets. Despite the win against Sri Lanka, a weak net run rate saw the team bow out.

Now this move by PCB indicates that the board wants to directly link performance to accountability. This is a blow both financially and mentally for the players. It will be interesting to see in the coming times whether this strictness will improve the team’s performance or will give rise to new controversies in Pakistan cricket.
