Big action by Vigilance Bureau, 187 bribe takers caught red handed in 2025
Vigilance Bureau Punjab: Resolved to root out corruption from the society, Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to crack down on bribe takers and create awareness among the public. During this period, the Vigilance Bureau has arrested 187 persons red-handed while taking bribe in various cases, which shows the efficient and accountable governance of the Punjab Government.
Caught red handed while taking bribe
Giving information, the official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that during the year 2025, the Vigilance Bureau has caught 144 government employees of various departments and 43 private persons red-handed while taking bribes in 127 trap cases. Adopting a zero tolerance policy against corruption, the Vigilance Bureau arrested 18 gazetted officers and 126 non-gazetted employees from January 1 to December 31, 2025.
Caught taking bribe in different cases
He revealed that during the year 2025, apart from other departments, 43 employees of Punjab Police, 20 of Revenue Department, 21 of Electricity Department, 14 of Panchayat and Rural Development Department, 9 of Transport Department, 8 of Local Government Department, 5 of Forest Department, 5 of Health Department and 3 of Mandi Board were caught red handed while taking bribe in different cases. Apart from this, two employees each of Education, Cooperation, Food and Civil Supplies and Personnel Department were also arrested in corruption cases.
Gazetted and non-gazetted employees included
Giving further details about the functioning of the bureau, the spokesperson said that the Vigilance Bureau has registered 113 criminal cases against the accused, which include 17 gazetted officers, 98 non-gazetted employees and 118 private individuals. Apart from this, 38 vigilance inquiries have also been registered to investigate corruption related complaints against 17 gazetted officers, 20 non-gazetted employees and 15 private individuals. Besides, 10 cases of disproportionate assets have also been registered against 4 gazetted officers, 5 non-gazetted employees and 2 private individuals.
dismissed from departments
Apart from this, 6 non-gazetted employees have also been dismissed from service by their respective administrative departments after being convicted by the courts during the hearing of Vigilance Bureau cases. He further informed that the Vigilance Bureau has also successfully disposed of 65 vigilance investigations during the year 2025.
imprisonment for up to five years
Sharing other details, he said that various courts have sentenced 63 accused, including 3 gazetted officers, 38 non-gazetted employees and 22 private individuals, in 34 cases registered and fought by the bureau under the Prevention of Corruption Act. These accused have been sentenced to imprisonment ranging from one year to five years. Along with this, the courts have also imposed fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 2,01,000 in these cases, which comes to a total of Rs 18,71,000.
Seminars and public meetings organized in rural areas
The Vigilance Bureau effectively implemented awareness campaigns during the Vigilance Awareness Week. Under this, seminars and public meetings were organized in urban and rural areas with the aim of eradicating corruption and oath of honesty was also administered to all the officers and employees of the Bureau. A total of 6158 complaints were received by the Vigilance Bureau during the year 2025, out of which 363 complaints were received through the anti-corruption helpline.
He further said that during the year 2025, many influential persons were also named/arrested in corruption cases, including former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, MLA Raman Arora, IPS officer Harcharan Singh Bhullar, Assistant Commissioner CGST Ravinder Kumar Sharma from Jalandhar, PCS officer Vikramjit Singh Panthe from Batala, PCS officer Gurbir Singh Kohli from Ludhiana, PCS officer Ravinder Kumar from SBS Nagar. Bansal, General Manager of Pansap Ajitpal Singh Saini, Deputy Chief Engineer of PSPCL Harminder Singh, Sub-Registrar Jagtar Singh, Tehsildar Ram Lal, SMO Dr. Sumit Singh, DSP Gursher Singh and Dr. Amit Singla from Civil Hospital Sunam.
Case registered against them
Apart from this, during the year 2025, Paramjit Singh, Dhanwant Singh, Kulwant Singh, Lakhbir Singh and Hardayal Singh (all BDPOs), Amarjeet Singh (Forest Range Officer, Hoshiarpur), Narinderpal Singh (Executive Engineer) posted in Fazilka, SAS Nagar, Amritsar and Kapurthala respectively and Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, MC Patiala, MC Bathinda, MC Phagwara and MC Gurdaspur. Deployed Assistant Town Planner Sukhdev Vishisht, ATP Jaspal Singh, ATP Gurpreet Singh, ATP Raj Kumar and ATP Charanjit Singh were also arrested or booked.
