Big announcement by CM Bhagwant Mann, Tata plant to start in Punjab from March, investment worth Rs 3200 crore
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said here today that with Tata Steel’s manufacturing plant in Ludhiana becoming functional from March, the industry in Punjab will get a big boost. He stressed that the project reflects the global industry’s growing confidence in the state’s progressive policies and strong governance framework.
Meeting with Tata Steel delegation
Interacting with a senior delegation of Tata Steel, which included Vice President (Long Products) Ashish Anupam and senior representatives of Corporate Affairs, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Tata Steel Group is one of the world’s leading steel makers with an annual crude steel capacity of about 34 million tonnes and a strong presence in various geographies of the world.
Hi-tech plant of 0.75 MTPA capacity in Ludhiana
The Chief Minister said that Tata Steel Limited is constructing 0.75 MTPA Rebar Mill near Hi-Tech Valley, Ludhiana. Setting up electric arc furnace based steel-making facility. He said that initially the investment in this project spread over 115 acres was estimated to be around Rs 2,600 crore, which has now increased to Rs 3,200 crore.
This plant is expected to generate employment opportunities for approximately 2,500 persons, thereby strengthening the industrial environment of the area.
Eco-friendly and sustainable production process
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stressed that the unit will use 100 percent steel scrap as raw material and will adopt sustainable and environment-friendly production process. He said that the electric arc furnace route reduces carbon emissions to a great extent compared to the traditional blast furnace technology, which further strengthens the commitment of the Punjab government towards environment-friendly and sustainable industrial development.
CM Mann’s active role and pro-industry policies
Highlighting the proactive role played by the Punjab Government, the Chief Minister said that the Punjab Government has ensured the construction and operation of this mega project in a time bound manner, which reflects Punjab’s pro-industry policies and proactive governance structure.
Tata Steel’s biggest investment in Punjab
Describing the launch of this project as a matter of pride for the state, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is Tata Steel’s second largest plant in India after Jamshedpur and represents the company’s biggest investment in Punjab.
Reiterating the government’s commitment towards continuous industrial expansion, he assured full support and cooperation to Tata Steel for the successful operation of the project and further expansion in future. On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and other senior officers were present.
