Big blow to Australia: Mitchell Marsh out of ODI series against Pakistan, this player becomes the new captain of the team

Sydney. The Australian cricket team has suffered a big setback before the ODI series against Pakistan. Acting captain Mitchell Marsh, who is suffering from an ankle injury, has been ruled out of this series. His availability also remains uncertain for the Bangladesh tour.

Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed this and said that Marsh will not be able to take part in the ODI series against Pakistan due to an ankle injury. In his absence, wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis has been given the captaincy of the team. Marsh will remain in Perth for further testing and treatment.

Couldn’t even play the last match in IPL-
Mitchell Marsh was a part of Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), but due to injury he could not even play the last match of the team. He returned to Australia after the match against Rajasthan Royals on May 19, but has been troubled by an ankle injury since then.

Marsh’s exit from this series is being considered a big blow for Australia, because he had shown excellent form recently.

Marsh was in strong form-
In the IPL season, Marsh scored 563 runs in 13 matches at an average of 43.30. During this period he scored one century and three half-centuries. He played excellent innings of 55 and 96 runs against Rajasthan Royals, 111 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore and 90 runs against Chennai Super Kings.

Continuous shocks to Australia-
The team is already struggling with the unavailability of many big players. Pat Cummins and Travis Head are not in the team due to IPL playoff commitments. Apart from this, leading fast bowlers like Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc will also not be a part of this tour. In such a situation, Australia will have to enter this series with many changes.

The ODI series against Pakistan will be played in Islamabad and Lahore from May 30 to June 4, after which the team will tour Bangladesh.

Australia’s ODI team for Pakistan tour-
Josh Inglis (captain), Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Matthew Kuhneman, Marnus Labuschagne, Riley Meredith, Oliver Peak, Matthew Renshaw, Tanvir Sangha, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Billy Stanlake, Adam Zampa.
