Big blow to Kuldeep Singh Sengar from Delhi High Court: Bail plea rejected in the case of death of rape victim’s father.
New Delhi. Delhi High Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the case of custodial death of Unnao gangrape victim’s father. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said on Monday that Kuldeep Singh Sengar and others were convicted in this case by the lower court on March 4, 2020.
The court had sentenced Sengar to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment, along with fine and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the legal heirs of the deceased. Kuldeep Singh Sengar had filed an appeal against the order of the lower court. The petition said that the sentence should be suspended while his appeal against this order is pending.
The CBI strongly opposed the bail plea of the appellant. The High Court has rejected the petition for suspension of sentence filed by Kuldeep Singh Sengar. It is noteworthy that in the case related to rape of a minor girl, the Supreme Court had canceled the order of the High Court granting bail to the accused.
Let us tell you that former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, convicted in the Unnao rape case, was granted bail by the Delhi High Court on December 23. This order of the High Court was challenged by the CBI in the Supreme Court. Earlier, while hearing the CBI petition, the Supreme Court had stayed Sengar’s bail.
Let us tell you, the Unnao rape case had created huge outrage across the country. In December 2019, the trial court had convicted Sengar of kidnapping and raping a minor girl and sentenced him to imprisonment, and also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh.
