Big blow to Team India, difficult to play against Abhishek Sharma’s Namibia –
Tezzbuzz Desk- Amidst the T20 World Cup 2026, worrying news has emerged for Team India. The team’s star opener Abhishek Sharma has been admitted to the hospital due to serious stomach infection. In such a situation, his chances of playing in India’s second match against Namibia on 12th February are considered very less. This match is to be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
In fact, during the first match played against USA on February 7, questions started being raised about Abhishek Sharma’s health. According to reports, he played that match despite having high fever, after which his condition worsened. In that match, Abhishek was out on a golden duck and after batting, he was not even seen in the dugout of Team India. Sanju Samson fielded in his place.
During the match against USA, not only Abhishek but Jasprit Bumrah was also unwell, while Washington Sundar was not present with the team. The circumstances were such that Kuldeep Yadav and fielding coach T. Dilip had to handle the responsibility of serving drinks on the field. After the match, Abhishek Sharma did not even come to the field for a handshake, which further intensified the speculations about his health.
Abhishek Sharma was not seen even in the practice session of Team India on 10 February. At that time, the team management had given the reason for his absence as stomach problem, but according to the report of Times of India, he has got stomach infection and due to this he has been admitted to the hospital.
Speaking to the media before the practice session, Team India’s assistant coach Ryan Des Cate had said, “Abhishek has some stomach related complaints. We are hopeful that he can be available to play in the next two days.”
However, according to recent news, his health has deteriorated further in the last 24 hours, due to which it is considered almost impossible for him to play against Namibia.
Meanwhile, Sanju Samson’s batting fiercely in the practice session also indicates that the team management is preparing him as an alternative opener. It is noteworthy that on February 8, Abhishek Sharma was seen with Team India at Gautam Gambhir’s dinner party in Delhi, where Gambhir also looked worried after seeing his health.
Now all eyes are on the pre-match press conference to be held on February 11 regarding the fitness of Abhishek Sharma. It is expected that the team management there will share more accurate information regarding his health and return.
