Big controversy in Bengal elections: Allegation of BJP buttons being covered on EVM, Amit Malviya demands re-polling
Kolkata. Political allegations and counter-allegations have intensified amid the second phase of West Bengal Assembly elections. BJP IT cell chief and co-incharge of West Bengal Amit Malviya has made serious allegations against Trinamool Congress and claimed electoral irregularities in the Diamond Harbor area of South 24 Parganas.
Malviya alleges that at many polling stations the buttons of the EVM machines were covered with tape, thereby preventing voters from voting of their choice. Terming it the “Diamond Harbor model”, he said it had reportedly been used in Lok Sabha elections earlier too.
Serious allegations made on social media-
Posting on social media platform X, Amit Malviya said that Mamata Banerjee’s support is being given to candidates who have criminal background. Taking the name of TMC candidate from Falta seat, Jahangir Khan, he alleged that the elections were being deliberately tampered with.
Malviya also claimed that at many booths the voting option in favor of BJP was taped off, due to which voters were not able to vote freely.
Shared video as proof-
The BJP leader has also shared purported videos of polling stations to support his claims and demanded immediate re-polling at the affected booths. He mentioned several other centers including Booth 144 (Part 170, Room No. 2, Harindanga High School) and Booth 189 of Falta Assembly Constituency.
Voting continues amid tight security-
The second phase of voting is being conducted amid heavy security arrangements across the state. A total of 2,407 companies, including Central Armed Police Forces, reserve battalions and police from other states, have been deployed to monitor the election process. Apart from this, West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police are also handling the security arrangements.
At present, any official response from the Election Commission on the allegations is awaited.
