Big crisis in Iran amid war, IRGC commanders angry over ‘apology’ gave open challenge to the President
New Delhi: The ruling class has been deeply divided amid the war in Iran. President Massoud Pezeshkian’s statement apologizing for the attacks on Gulf countries has caused great anger among fundamentalist elements and the Revolutionary Guards, while the attacks continue.
This move of the President is being seen as weakness, after which his statement was amended. Terming it a surrender, Trump has warned of strict action, which has further increased regional tension.
President Pezeshkian’s apology statement
The Iranian President had said that I personally apologize to the neighboring countries that have been affected by Iran’s actions. And requested them not to participate in American-Israeli attacks on Iran.
Pezeshkian had dismissed Trump’s demand for unconditional surrender as a pipe dream, adding that Iran’s Temporary Leadership Council had agreed to suspend attacks on neighboring states as long as attacks on Iran were not carried out from their territory.
Trump’s strong reaction
Despite this, Trump called this apology a surrender, and also said that a very strong attack will be made on Saturday and warned that America can increase the scope of its attacks.
Anger among senior commanders and radicals
According to media, Pezeshkian’s apology statement caused a political stir in Iran, prompting his office to reiterate that Iran’s military would respond strongly to attacks on US targets in the region. Hours later, the president reposted his statement on social media, but removed the apology from his speech, which had angered hard-liners, including the powerful Revolutionary Guards.
Radical religious leader and MP Hamid Rasai wrote on X, ‘Pezeshkian, your stance was unprofessional, weak and unacceptable.’ A former commander condemned Pezeshkian’s statement on social media.
Stand of Judiciary Chief and Revolutionary Guards
Judiciary chief Mohseni-Ezei, a hardline member of the three-member council that temporarily handles the supreme leader’s powers. The space of some regional countries is being used overtly and covertly for attacks against Iran, and retaliatory attacks will continue. Soon after, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced that their drones had attacked Al Dhafra Air Base, located just near Abu Dhabi. This base is an important location of the American Air Command Center, from where American operations run in the Gulf area.
The IRGC claims that their drones accurately targeted this military base, which targeted the American airborne command center, satellite communication system and early-warning radar. There was an attack in Dubai also, in which one person also died. Revolutionary Guards also carried out attacks in Bahrain and Doha.
A fundamentalist close to Khamenei has said that Pezeshkian’s words have angered many senior commanders of the Revolutionary Guards.
