Big cylinder blast in nightclub in Goa; 23 people died in the fire that broke out after the explosion

Late on Saturday night, a cylinder exploded in a nightclub in North Goa. The night club went up in flames due to cylinder explosion. The nightclub burned down in no time. The police have determined that the cause of the fire was a cylinder explosion.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the spot. Most deaths are reported to be due to suffocation. The incident took place at Arpora village at 12:04 PM local time. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said in his post that the state government has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Videos on social media showed queues of ambulances to help the injured.

Police said that fire engines and ambulances reached the spot as soon as the fire was reported. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while officials worked through the night to bring the situation under control. Police said the fire has been brought under control and all the bodies have been recovered.
Meanwhile, Goa, a small state on India’s west coast, is a popular tourist destination, especially among foreigners, for its beaches and mountainous landscape. According to government data, approximately 55 lakh tourists visited Goa in the first half of the year. 271000 of them were said to be international tourists.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “The fire incident in Goa is very sad. My condolences to those who lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. I spoke to the Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawantji about the situation. The state government is providing all possible assistance to the affected.”
