New Delhi. An important agreement has been signed between India and America in the defense sector, which is considered a big step in the strategic partnership of both the countries. Under this agreement, American company GE Aerospace and India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will co-produce F414 jet engine in India.
New era of construction with technology
This agreement is not limited to engine production only, but also includes transfer of important technology. This will provide India an opportunity to acquire advanced jet engine technology, which only a few countries possess so far.
New impetus to Make in India
This deal is considered very important for ‘Make in India’ and ‘Self-reliant India’ campaign. Through this, India will strengthen its defense production capacity and move towards reducing foreign dependence. India’s involvement in cutting-edge technology like jet engine manufacturing can put it in the list of select countries capable of developing such advanced defense technology.
Help in modernization of Indian Air Force
This engine will be used in India’s upcoming indigenous fighter aircraft, such as Tejas MK2 and other advanced fighter jets. This will lead to a major improvement in the strength and technical capability of the Indian Air Force.
Important for America also from strategic point of view
America is further strengthening its defense relations with India through this partnership. Besides, the strategy of balancing China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region also gets strengthened.
