Big decision of Bihar government, now good news for farmers of 17 districts
Patna. A big change is being seen in the field of farming in Bihar. Taking important steps to promote Makhana production, the state government has now decided to connect farmers of more districts with this scheme. This decision is going to greatly benefit the farmers especially of Mithilanchal and surrounding areas.
Now 16 districts will get direct benefits
The government has increased the scope of grants under the Makhana Development Scheme. Earlier this facility was limited to only 10 districts, but now it has been extended to 16 districts. These districts include Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Khagaria along with Samastipur, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, East Champaran and West Champaran.
Up to 75% subsidy to farmers
Under this scheme, farmers will be given subsidy of up to 75 percent for the cultivation of Makhana. This will reduce the cost of farming and more farmers will be attracted towards this crop. The government aims to rapidly expand Makhana production across the state in the coming times.
The scope of farming is increasing rapidly
At present Makhana is being cultivated in about 40,000 hectare area in Bihar. But in view of the increasing interest of farmers, it is expected to increase manifold in the coming years. The government is also continuously investing to encourage this expansion.

If Makhana cultivation and related processing activities are promoted in the state itself, it will create new employment opportunities in rural areas. Also, migration will reduce and the economy of the state will get strengthened.
