Big decision of Bombay High Court, bail of Shiv Sena leader supporting Deputy CM cancelled, ultimatum to surrender – ..

The Bombay High Court has taken a very strict and historic stand regarding the safety of medical personnel and law and order. The court has removed with immediate effect the major legal protection given to Shiv Sena leader Ramesh Mhatre, accused of publicly abusing and assaulting a woman doctor on duty in a government hospital in Dombivali. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Akhar has completely canceled the bail granted by the trial court on July 14 in this case. Along with this, the High Court has issued a strict ultimatum to this influential leader, considered a supporter of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, to surrender before the police under any circumstances by July 19, 2026.

Court angry at ignoring criminal history: Not one or two, 18 serious cases are already registered against the accused

During the detailed hearing of this case, the Bombay High Court has raised very serious questions on the lax attitude of the lower court and the decision process. Citing officially recorded records, the division bench said that the long criminal history of the accused was completely ignored while granting bail, while a total of 18 criminal cases, including heinous crimes like murder, were already registered against Ramesh Mhatre in different police stations. The Hon’ble Judges made scathing remarks and clarified that even though the accused was acquitted on technical grounds in 17 of these old cases, the judiciary should have taken a decision keeping in mind his habitual violent tendencies in the society and his background in serious cases.

Lost my temper after not getting a vacant bed: Understand the entire incident of slapping and hooliganism

This entire controversy started from a busy government hospital in Dombivali area of Mumbai, where Shiv Sena leader Ramesh Mhatre, boasting of VIP culture, suddenly arrived and insisted on immediately allotting a vacant bed for someone of his acquaintance. Citing unavailability of beds in the hospital, when the lady doctor on duty there expressed her inability to provide beds as per the rules, the leader lost his temper. Mhatre not only used very abusive language with the female doctor, but also had a violent scuffle with her and slapped her hard in public. After the video and news of this shameful incident went viral, when the local police registered a case and arrested the accused, the trial court easily granted him bail, which had created a feeling of immense insecurity among the doctors.

High Court’s appeal on doctors’ nationwide strike: Taking suo motu cognizance, the court assured justice

In protest against the increasing attacks on government doctors and paramedical staff and angry over the speedy bail granted to the accused leader, doctors’ groups in Maharashtra had made a big announcement of going on a statewide mass strike from July 22, which could lead to complete collapse of health services. Sensing the anger of the Medical Association, the Bombay High Court itself took ‘suo motu’ cognizance of the entire matter and conducted a speedy hearing, clearing the way for sending the accused back to jail. Now that the bail of the main accused has been completely rejected, the double bench of the High Court has made an emotional appeal to the agitating doctors to reconsider the decision of their proposed strike in public interest and immediately return to work.
