Big decision of Election Commission, appointment of SRO in these states with SIR process, know what will be their work

The process of SIR (Special Intensive Revision) is going on in 12 states and union territories which is now at the final stage. On Thursday, the Election Commission extended the deadline for the SIR process of 6 states and on Friday it took another big decision. ECI has appointed Special Role Observers (SROs) for special intensive revision of voter lists in major states.

SRO appointed in these states

  • west bengal
  • Tamil Nadu
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Gujarat
  • Kerala
  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Chhattisgarh
  • Rajasthan

What will be the work of SRO?

  • The SROs have commenced their work and are expected to remain present in these states two days a week until the final voter lists are published in February 2026.
  • The SROs will hold meetings with the state and district level leadership of all political parties at the national and state level.
  • The SROs will also hold meetings with the CEOs and DEOs of the states, either physically or virtually, so that the entire process can be completed in a smooth, transparent and participatory manner.
  • The SROs will oversee the process of SIR so that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible person is included in the voter list.

SIR process going on in these states

Let us inform you that the process of SIR is going on in 12 states. Which includes Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

Deadline extended in 6 states

Election Commission has extended the SIR deadline of 6 states. In Andaman and Nicobar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, the SIR process will be done by 18th December and the draft voter list will be released on 23rd December. Whereas in UP, the forms will be filled till 26th December and the draft roll of voter list will be released on 31st December. Along with this, forms will be filled in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat by 14th December and the draft voter list will be released on 19th December.
