Shock to Honey Singh and Badshah

A single bench of Justice Purushendra Kumar Kaurav termed the lyrics of the song as ‘grossly obscene, objectionable and highly derogatory towards women’. The court also said that the song presents women as mere sexual objects and makes fun of social values. The court clearly said that ‘this is one of those rare cases where the conscience of the court has been completely shaken. There should be no place for such content in a civilized society.

The court issued a notice to Honey Singh, Badshah and all the rights holders, directing that no version, remix or part of the song should remain available on the internet.

What was the reason for the dispute?

This decision was taken during the hearing on the petition of Hindu Shakti Dal. It was alleged in the petition that recently some lyrics of this song were sung in a concert of Honey Singh, due to which the controversy increased again. The lyrics of the song were so offensive that the court refused to record them in written form. The court also directed the Central Government, social media intermediaries and music platforms to block this song and any content related to it. If any new URL or remix emerges, it has also been ordered to be removed immediately.

Both Honey Singh and Badshah are popular rappers in the music industry. He started his career with the group ‘Mafia Mundhir’ and later became successful separately. The controversy of this old song has now come into limelight again. This decision of the court reflects the increasing sensitivity towards abusive content towards women in Bollywood and music industry.
