Big decision on electricity rates in Bihar, relief to 27 lakh consumers

Bihar News: Relief news has emerged for the electricity consumers of Bihar. The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission has rejected the proposed increase in electricity rates in the state. Now electricity will be provided to consumers at existing rates only.

35 Proposal to increase paise per unit rejected

North Bihar Power Distribution Company and South Bihar Power Distribution Company in all categories. 35 money per unit Increase was proposed. The Commission did not approve this demand after the hearing. Public hearing on this proposal given in November 2025 was also held in Patna, Gaya and Begusarai.

Now one slab system instead of two slabs

The Commission has decided to abolish the system of two slabs in urban household, rural and urban non-household categories and implement a single slab. From this 100 Consumers who consume more than the unit will also get the benefit of lower rates. The new system will come into effect from April 1, 2026.

Which consumers benefit by how much??

  • Urban Household Consumers: 1.53 Relief up to Rs per unit
  • Rural Non-Domestic Consumers: 0.42 Rs per unit cheap electricity
  • Urban Non-Domestic Consumers: 1.20 Profit up to Rs per unit

With this decision the state 27 More than lakh consumers will get direct benefits.
