Big evidence related to India found in excavations in Thailand, Brahmi script ring reveals secrets of history
New Delhi . Cultural and trade relations between India and Thailand are not limited to the modern era, but their roots go back about two thousand years. The latest evidence of this has come from an archaeological excavation in Thailand, where scientists have found two ancient gold rings. The words inscribed in Indian Brahmi script on one of these rings have attracted the attention of historians. Experts believe that this discovery is important evidence of strong trade contacts between ancient India and South-East Asia.
The discovery took place at the Don Yai Thong archaeological site in Petchaburi province of Thailand. According to the Fine Arts Department of Thailand, these rings were found during the excavation of human skeletons here. Preliminary studies revealed that they may belong to the Iron Age period, about 2,000 years old.
Important message found in Brahmi script
Experts tried to read the Brahmi script inscribed on a ring, which found ‘Pus Rakhitas’ written. Its meaning is said to be – “The person who has the protection of Pushya.” In Indian tradition, Pushya Nakshatra is considered extremely auspicious and a symbol of prosperity. No writing was found on the second ring, but the design and style of both ornaments point to Indian influence.
There may be a connection with an Indian businessman
Archaeologists believe that these rings may have belonged to a prosperous Indian merchant, who might have reached Thailand at that time through sea trade. During that period, Indian traders traded spices, textiles, metals, jewelery and other goods with the countries of South-East Asia. This is the reason why evidence of Indian culture, language and religious influence has been found from time to time in many areas including Thailand.
Big discovery started from paddy field
This historical site was identified when local villagers found ancient objects in a paddy field. After this the government started scientific excavation here. Since February, eight human skeletons, gold and bronze jewellery, pottery and many other ancient objects have been recovered from here. Experts estimate that after the completion of the excavation, all these remains will be displayed in the museum for the general public.
Expectations also increased on Rakhigarhi
On the other hand, in India too, research has intensified regarding Rakhigarhi, which is one of the largest sites of Indus Valley Civilization. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has handed over the human skeletons found there to the Anthropological Survey of India for scientific and DNA analysis. Researchers hope that these studies will reveal many new facts related to ancient Indian civilization, people’s lifestyle and genetic history. This new discovery found in Thailand once again proves that the trade and cultural influence of ancient India was spread thousands of kilometers away through sea routes.
