Big gift for the daughters of Punjab, 2,769 families got Rs 14.12 crore under Ashirwad Yojana.

Ashirwad Yojana: Reiterating Punjab Government’s commitment towards all-round development and social justice, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that the State Government has released an amount of ₹14.12 crore under Ashirwad Scheme for 2,769 eligible beneficiaries of backward classes and economically weaker sections during the financial year 2026-27. This financial assistance will help eligible families to meet the marriage expenses of their daughters gracefully and reduce their financial burden.

Welfare benefits available in a timely manner

Sharing more details, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minority Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that during the current financial year, 2,769 eligible applications from beneficiaries of 19 districts were received through the Ashirwad portal. To ensure that every eligible family receives timely financial assistance, the Punjab Government has released ₹14.12 crore, reflecting its commitment to provide welfare benefits in a transparent, efficient and time-bound manner.

The minister said that the beneficiaries include 85 from Barnala, 61 from Bathinda, 31 from Faridkot, 91 from Firozpur, 83 from Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, 347 from Fazilka, 401 from Gurdaspur, 162 from Hoshiarpur, 17 from Jalandhar, 151 from Ludhiana, 73 from Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib. 105 from Patiala, 556 from Patiala, 61 from Pathankot, 161 from Rupnagar, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) to 108, S.B.S. There are 65 beneficiaries from the city, 94 from Sangrur and 117 from Malerkotla.

Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that under the Aashirvaad Scheme, the Punjab Government provides financial assistance of ₹ 51,000 for the marriage of eligible daughters from low-income families, so that financial constraints do not become a hindrance in this important opportunity of their life.

Daughters of eligible families are taking benefits

The Cabinet Minister further informed that to avail the benefits of the scheme, the applicant must be a permanent resident of the state of Punjab, belong to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family and belong to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes or other economically weaker sections. The total annual income of the family from all sources should not exceed ₹32,790. He said that maximum two daughters of an eligible family can avail the benefit of this scheme.

Dr. Baljeet Kaur also informed that this financial assistance is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, thereby ensuring transparency, accountability and timely delivery of benefits.

The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach every needy family in a transparent and time bound manner. He reiterated that the Government is committed to empower the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections by providing them welfare, respect for families, financial security and equal opportunities, so that no eligible beneficiary is left out in the construction of “Rangla Punjab”.
