Big gift on Holi: Stipend for SC-ST students doubled, 40 residential schools will be built

Sanjay Singh, Patna. Amidst the colors of Holi, Bihar government has made a new announcement for the students of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe community. Minister Lakhendra Kumar Roshan has announced at the Holi Milan function organized in Patna on Friday that health workers will soon be deployed 24 hours in all Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar residential schools of the state and multipurpose vehicles will be made available to deal with emergencies. Besides, it has also been decided to open 40 new residential schools with 720 seat capacity.

Paving the way for opening 40 new residential schools

Minister Roshan said that at present 91 residential schools are running in the state. Now the government has decided to open 40 new schools with a capacity of 720 seats. The process of starting these schools soon has been expedited. He said that there has been tremendous enthusiasm among students and parents regarding enrollment in class 1 and class 6 for the session 2026-27. A total of 1,03,195 applications have been received through online and offline medium. These include 59,453 applications for Class 1 and 43,742 applications for Class 6. It is clear from the number of applications that the society’s trust in residential schools is continuously increasing.

Scholarship doubled, no worries about fees

Emphasizing on the educational empowerment of SC-ST students, the Minister said that about 25 lakh students from classes 1 to 11 are given scholarships through the department. Recently, after the approval of the Cabinet, the scholarship amount has been doubled. Under the Post-Entrance Scholarship Scheme, the government will now pay all the mandatory fees including tuition fees of the students studying in educational institutions run by the state and central governments. This will provide great relief to economically weaker students in getting higher education.

Strengthening of merit scholarship and hostel scheme also

Under the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme, assistance of Rs 164 crore 66 lakh has been given to 1,63,826 SC-ST students in the year 2025-26. Apart from this, 10,663 students are getting education, accommodation and food facilities in 137 hostels run by the department. Each student is given 15 kg of grains and a grant of Rs 1,000 per month. The minister indicated that this grant amount will also be increased soon.

Construction of 4800 community buildings

To strengthen the social structure in rural areas, 4,800 community buildings have been constructed in SC-ST hamlets of Gram Panchayats. The construction work will be completed soon after surveying the remaining tolls. These announcements made by the Minister are being considered as a big step towards education and social empowerment. The focus of the government is clear to create a strong foundation for the bright future of SC-ST students by providing them a safe environment, better education and financial support.
