News Desk. A big good news has emerged for the agriculture sector of Uttar Pradesh. Pilibhit district is now going to make its place among the selected agricultural innovation centers of the country. APEDA (Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), working under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, has approved setting up the country’s second Basmati seed production and training center here.
State-of-the-art agricultural center will be developed on 7 acres
This ambitious center will be developed on about seven acres of land in Tanda Bijaisi village of Amriya tehsil of Pilibhit. The land allotment has received approval from the state government and now the process of construction and infrastructure development is going to start soon. The proposed center will include a research unit, advanced seed production unit, training complex and demonstration area of organic farming.
New center will prove to be a boon for farmers
This center will be no less than a milestone for the farmers of Pilibhit and surrounding Basmati producing areas. Here they will get technical guidance related to high quality certified Basmati seeds, seed traceability, international residue standards and quality improvement. With this, Basmati production will become more organized, safe and export friendly.
Training in organic farming and modern technology
One of the main objectives of this center is to encourage farmers towards organic farming. Here, training will be given on field demonstration of improved Basmati varieties, pest and disease management, natural farming methods, seed production technology and quality standards. Availability of pure and certified seeds will reduce the production cost of farmers, improve crop quality and increase their chances of getting premium prices in the market.
Basmati export and agri-business will get a new dimension
This center will also prove to be very useful for Basmati exporters, processors and agri-entrepreneurs. Technical facilities like international quality standards, export processes, global market demand, DNA testing and residue testing will be available here. The proposed world class laboratories and seed processing units will give Pilibhit a new identity on the Basmati export map.
