Big intervention of Supreme Court, order to deploy judicial officers for voter list revision in Bengal
Amidst the ongoing controversy regarding Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list in West Bengal, the Supreme Court has made a significant intervention in Calcutta. high court Has been instructed to take the help of judicial officers (SIR Voter List West Bengal). The top court has said that in the current circumstances, the role of judicial officers is necessary to complete the process in a fair and transparent manner.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court clarified that the High Court can involve judicial officers of the level of District Judge and Additional District Judge in this process. The responsibility of these officers will be to investigate the claims and objections related to the voter list and take them to their logical conclusion. The court described the decision as an “extraordinary step taken in extraordinary circumstances”.
In fact, there have been long-standing differences between the state government and the Election Commission regarding the appointment of officers and their eligibility for voter list revision. Expressing concern over this situation, the Supreme Court said that due to lack of coordination between the constitutional institutions, the process is being affected (SIR Voter List West Bengal). The court said that the involvement of independent judicial officers is necessary to ensure fairness and maintain the credibility of the voter list.
The Supreme Court also directed that to implement this system, the State Chief Secretary, State Election Commissioner, Police Chief and other senior officers should hold a meeting with the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court and decide the outline of the scheme. The court stressed that all concerned parties must work together to complete this process in a timely and effective manner.
During the hearing, the court also expressed displeasure over the delay and ambiguity regarding the deployment of officers. The court said that decisions related to voter list are of utmost importance, hence participation of competent and impartial officers in this process is mandatory.
The Supreme Court directed the State Government to ensure that necessary cooperation and conducive environment is provided to the judicial officers to perform their work.
