Big justice in Tamil Nadu! 9 policemen guilty of death of father and son will be hanged, the soul will tremble
A news has come from Tamil Nadu which has shocked the entire country. A Madurai court has given a historic verdict in the case of custodial death of father and son in the year 2020. The court has sentenced death to nine policemen found guilty of this inhuman act. Police Inspector Sridhar is also among those punished, on whom along with death sentence, a huge fine of Rs 15 lakh has also been imposed.
Court’s strict comment on abuse of power
The court made very strong comments during the hearing of this case. The court said that the brutality with which the father and son were stripped and beaten was “heart-wrenching.” The judge called it the worst example of abuse of power and said that this case is going to completely destroy a happy family. The court clearly said that officers who are paid from public money cannot use ‘work stress’ as an excuse for their violent acts. The court also admitted that if this case was not continuously monitored, the truth might never have come out.
Life imprisonment is not enough, only hanging will create fear
Madurai Court made it clear in its judgment that there are many honest officers in Tamil Nadu Police, but life imprisonment in such heinous cases will not create enough fear within the department. With this in mind, the court awarded death sentence to all the nine surviving convicts. Let us tell you that charges were framed against a total of 10 policemen in this case, out of which one accused, SSI Pauldurai, died of Corona in the year 2020 itself. The CCTV footage presented in this case and the CBI charge sheet played a big role in bringing the culprits to book.
What was that dark day, when the family was destroyed?
This entire incident took place in Sathankulam of Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu. In June 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, the police had detained P. Jeyaraj from his mobile shop. Police alleged that he had kept the shop open in violation of curfew rules. When Jeyaraj’s son Benix reached the police station to rescue his father, he got into an argument with the police. After this, the police kept the law aside and brutally tortured the father and son the whole night.
The next day he was sent to Kovilpatti sub-jail without any treatment, where his condition deteriorated. Bennix died in the hospital on 22 June 2020 and the next day on 23 June, father Jeyraj also died. There were protests across the country after this incident, after which the investigation was handed over to the CBI. This decision, which came today after four years, has given hope for justice to the victim’s family.
