Big loss due to ego clash and breakup, Karishma-Ajay’s film ‘Kala Paani’ closed forever
New Delhi. Bollywood’s Lolo i.e. Karisma Kapoor ruled the hearts of the audience through many superhit and blockbuster films in her career. Karisma Kapoor, who is celebrating her birthday on 25th June, is counted among the most successful actresses of the 90s. He worked with big stars like Salman Khan, Govinda, Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan and gave many memorable films. However, there was one film in his film journey which could never reach the big screen. This film was ‘Kala Paani’ in which Ajay Devgan was going to be seen in the lead role with her.
In the 90s, the pair of Karisma Kapoor and Ajay Devgan was one of the favorite pairs of the audience. Both of them worked together in films like Jigar, Suhaag and Shaktimaan and their chemistry was highly appreciated. Along with becoming a hit pair onscreen, their closeness started growing in real life as well. At that time, discussion of their relationship was common in film magazines and entertainment world. It is believed that both were very close to each other and their relationship had become quite serious.
Meanwhile, director Prakash Jha planned to make a big budget film ‘Kala Paani’ with Karisma Kapoor and Ajay Devgan. There was a lot of enthusiasm in the industry about the film and it was counted among the big projects of that time. Shooting had also started and some part of the film had been completed. But meanwhile, cracks started appearing in the relationship between the two artists.
According to reports, the relationship between Ajay Devgan and Karisma Kapoor started deteriorating during the shooting of the film. It is said that during this time, Kajol entered Ajay Devgan’s life and after this the tension in the relationship between Karishma and Ajay increased. Gradually the situation worsened so much that even the conversation between the two stopped. This distance created in personal life reached the film sets and its effect became clearly visible on the shooting.
The actors who once used to spend hours with each other, now started shying away from even shooting scenes together. It is said that both of them had started expressing reluctance to work with each other. Director Prakash Jha tried to handle the matter and bring about a reconciliation between the two but no solution could be found. The shooting of the film started getting affected again and again and the crisis on the project deepened.
Ultimately the situation became such that the makers had to stop the work of the film. Despite crores of rupees being spent and a major portion of the shooting completed, ‘Kala Paani’ was shelved. Manufacturers had to suffer huge financial losses due to this decision. At the same time, the audience was also deprived of seeing the film which was considered a potential blockbuster at that time.
After the closure of the film, the paths of Karisma Kapoor and Ajay Devgan parted ways forever. Karisma went on to give many hit films with Govinda and Salman Khan while Ajay Devgan took his life and career forward with Kajol. Even today, when incomplete and unreleased films of Bollywood are mentioned, the name of ‘Kala Paani’ is taken first. This film is an example of the fact that sometimes the sourness of personal relationships leaves even a big cinematic dream unfulfilled.
