Big mistakes made while charging electric vehicle, which most people do not know

In today’s time, electric vehicles are rapidly becoming the first choice of people. With the end of the hassle of petrol and diesel, the demand for EV is continuously increasing due to its low cost and better option for the environment. But just buying an EV is not enough, charging it properly is equally important. A small carelessness in charging can reduce the life of the battery and can also increase the safety risk.

Use the correct charger for your vehicle

The charging system of every electric car is different. Most of the cars in India run on CCS2 standard. Fast charger is fine on the highway but do not make it a habit to use it daily. Fast charging causes the battery to overheat, which can damage the cells in the long run. AC slow charger at home is considered the safest and beneficial for everyday use.

Avoid filling the battery completely during daily charging

EV batteries have a battery management system but it is still better to keep the daily charging around eighty. This reduces the pressure on the battery and its capacity remains for a longer period. It is wise to fully charge the battery before a long journey.

Always use reliable cables and plugs

For charging, use only the cable and plug provided or authorized by the company. Local or cheap cables can increase the risk of short circuit and fire. Check the cable carefully once a week for cuts or bent pins. If you feel excessive heat during charging, pay attention immediately.

Charge EV only in dry and ventilated place

The combination of electricity and water is dangerous. Therefore always charge the EV in a dry place. Charging in a closed and stuffy place prevents the heat from coming out. It is better to charge the vehicle in an open or ventilated garage. If there is a burning smell or strange sound, stop charging immediately.

Avoid rumors and adopt smart charging

It is not necessary to charge every night. Set charging according to your driving needs with the help of the mobile app. It is a good habit to get service checkup done from time to time. Ignore rumors spread about the weather. With proper care the EV runs comfortably in Indian weather.
