Meanwhile, the Central Government has now issued instructions to air passengers regarding the use of internet services during air travel.
The government said that during air travel, passengers will be able to use internet services through Wi-Fi only after reaching an altitude of 3,000 meters. According to the order of the Central Government, passengers can use electronic devices only in planes reaching a height of 3,000 meters. The Central Government has given these instructions in its notified new rules. This newly notified regulation of the Central Government will be called the Flight and Maritime Connectivity (Amendment) Rules, 2024.
The central government order (air travel) states, 'Notwithstanding the minimum altitude in Indian airspace specified in sub-rule (1), Internet service through Wi-Fi shall be provided in aircraft only when the aircraft is equipped with electronic Use of gadgets is permitted. The government has given such instructions to avoid interference in the land mobile network. In early 2020 the government allowed airlines in India to provide free Wi-Fi to passengers during travel. After this, restrictions imposed on passengers during air travel were removed.
The Civil Aviation Ministry had said that passengers will now be able to use Wi-Fi in the aircraft. But for this two conditions have to be followed. It was said that the captain will have the authority to turn on or off Wi-Fi in the aircraft. Also, Wi-Fi will only work when the plane's speed is stable. Also, it has to be closed during take off or landing.
