Big news for brick kilns in UP, government issued notification

Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh government has issued a new notification for brick-kiln operators. Under this, it has now become mandatory to obtain environmental NOC (No Objection Certificate) for mining of soil before running any brick kiln. This step has been taken to ensure compliance with environmental rules in the state.

Relaxation in old rules now ends

Earlier, kiln operators were not required to take NOC for mining soil up to two meters. This exemption was given in May 2020, which brought a lot of ease to the kiln operators. But after this exemption was challenged in the court, it has now been abolished. The state government says that for lifting soil without NOC, kiln operators will not only be subject to fine but their kilns can also be closed.

How many kilns will be affected

There are about 22 thousand brick kiln operators in the state. Now it will be mandatory for all of them to obtain NOC before mining soil. The objective of this decision is to protect the environment and stop uncontrolled mining of soil near water structures and ponds and rivers.

online application process

Kiln operators will now have to apply online for NOC on the portal of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Along with the application, it will be mandatory for them to submit the documents of the mining site and the detailed mining plan. Apart from this, they will also have to clarify what measures will be taken to prevent pollution and environmental damage during mining. It has been said in the order that all Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates will ensure strict adherence to this rule.
