Big news for central employees, announcement of increase in allowances
New Delhi. There has been curiosity regarding Dearness Allowance (DA) for central employees in recent times, but in the meantime the government has shared important information regarding an important allowance, Children Education Allowance (CEA). Lakhs of employees are expected to directly benefit from this clarification.
What is Children Education Allowance (CEA)?
Children Education Allowance is an allowance given by the Central Government, under which employees get partial compensation for the expenses incurred on the education of their children. This includes expenses like tuition fees, books, uniform. Along with this, separate subsidy is also given for the children living in hostels.
Benefits on retirement or job loss?
As per the government’s clarification, if an employee retires or is removed from the job in the middle of the academic session, he/she will continue to get the benefit of CEA and hostel subsidy till the end of that entire academic year. This decision is considered a big relief for the employees.
Rules during suspension or leave
If an employee is suspended or on long leave, the benefit of allowance in this situation will depend on how the concerned authority recognizes that period. That means different decisions can be taken in every case.
How much benefit will the employees get?
As per the rules, the reimbursement under CEA is approximately ₹ 2812.5 per month per child. Whereas up to ₹ 8437.5 per month can be claimed as hostel subsidy. In this way, overall employees can get assistance of up to ₹ 11,250 every month. However, the benefit of hostel subsidy will be available only when the child is studying in a recognized hostel located at least 50 kilometers away from home.
