Big news for consumers with smart meters in UP

Lucknow. An important information has been issued for electricity consumers using smart prepaid meters in Uttar Pradesh. According to the information received, the electricity of those consumers whose balance has become negative in their smart prepaid meters and have not yet recharged, may automatically get disconnected from March 13. The electricity department has appealed to all such consumers to recharge their meters on time so that any kind of inconvenience can be avoided.

Smart meters installed in the homes of millions of consumers

To modernize the electricity system in the state, smart meters are being installed rapidly. More than 77 lakh smart meters have been installed so far, out of which about 70 lakh are prepaid smart meters. In these meters, consumers have to recharge first and electricity is consumed accordingly. However, a large number of consumers have come forward whose meter balance has exhausted or become negative, but they have not yet recharged.

Alert messages are being sent continuously

The Electricity Department says that consumers whose balance is decreasing or about to expire are being continuously informed through SMS. Consumers are informed about their balance status on their registered mobile number. When the amount left in the meter is 30 percent, the first message is sent. After this, a second alert is received when the balance remains at 10 percent and even when the balance becomes zero, the consumer is immediately informed.

Automatic disconnection from March 13

The electricity department has made it clear that from March 13, smart prepaid meters with negative balance will be disconnected through the automatic system. That is, if recharge is not done on time, the power supply may stop without any additional warning.

You can recharge your meter sitting at home

Many meter recharge options are now available for the convenience of consumers. Apart from the departmental cash counter, the meter can also be easily recharged at home through online means. If anyone faces technical or other problems, he can take help by calling the helpline number 1912 of the electricity department.
