- Big news for LPG consumers!
- Solution on the gas remaining in the cylinder
- ₹21900 crore will be saved
Approximately 40 lakh commercial cylinders are used across the country every day. Most of these are conventional steam powered cylinders. The biggest problem with these cylinders is that not all of the gas in them is used. Some gas remains and it feels like the cylinder is running out of gas. Simply put, for every 19-kg conventional cylinder, approximately 1 kg of gas remains, which is wasted. This means that approximately 4,000 tonnes of LPG is wasted every day, which equates to 1.46 million tonnes annually. So much damage. But now a solution has been found. So we will save 21900 crore rupees.

What has changed now?
Oil marketing companies in India are now encouraging commercial and industrial users to use liquid LPG cylinders. This is an important initiative to reduce fuel wastage and increase efficiency in the country, amid rising supply concerns worldwide.
Are liquid-dispensing cylinders LOT better?
The advantage of liquid-dispensing cylinders is that there is almost no gas wastage. This means that users can make the most of every drop of gas they purchase. This technological change is considered to be not only more economical, but also safer.
If all business users adopt this new system, the country can save approximately ₹21,900 crore annually. These figures have been disclosed by Pune Gas Systems in a letter written to Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
What is the difference between LOT and VOT cylinder prices?
There is no difference between the prices of both the cylinders. According to the latest rates on IndianOil’s website, both the 47.5 kg cylinders cost ₹7,332 in Delhi. A 19 kg LOT cylinder costs the same as a regular cylinder, i.e. ₹2,930.
What is the role of government and companies?
Oil marketing companies added 47.5 kg liquid cylinders to their product list in 2007. But they were never widely publicized. Now the situation is changing. Companies are preferring to supply these cylinders and more than 1,000 establishments across the country have adopted them. According to Jesal Sampat, Executive Director, Pune Gas Systems, there has been a significant increase in demand among consumers since its implementation in collaboration with oil companies. Now this change is becoming more and more popular across the country.
