Big relief on Hormuz Strait, US Navy will remove the blockade: Trump
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has given a big statement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, indicating that significant progress can be made in reducing tension in the region. Trump said through a social media post on Friday that Iran will have to clearly accept that it will never develop nuclear weapons or a nuclear bomb. He also demanded that the Strait of Hormuz should be immediately opened for movement of ships in both directions without any toll and hindrance.
Trump’s claim
Trump also claimed in his statement that the process of removing possible water mines present in the sea route has been started. He said that the US Navy’s state-of-the-art underwater mine sweepers have already neutralized many mines. According to Trump, if some mines are still left, Iran will immediately remove or destroy them.
The US President said that the ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz due to America’s strong naval blockade will now be able to return safely to their destination, as the process of removing the blockade imposed in this area is being started. In his statement, Trump addressed the people in a light manner and asked them to convey his “Namaskar” to their families.
He also mentioned that America and Iran will jointly destroy the nuclear material buried underground, which he called “nuclear dust”. According to Trump, this material was allegedly buried under the debris after American B-2 bomber attacks last year. He said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will also be involved in this process and will monitor the entire operation.
What was claimed in the reports?
Meanwhile, reports are claiming that talks regarding a possible Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between America and Iran have advanced significantly. It is being told that the negotiators from both the sides have reached a preliminary agreement, although the final approval is still pending. The White House has also indicated that the current ceasefire can be extended for 60 days, so that during this time detailed talks can continue regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
According to sources, Donald Trump is currently reviewing this agreement before taking a final decision. At the same time, some diplomats of the mediator countries say that the talks have not yet reached the final stage and formal approval is yet to be received from Iran.
