Big relief to employees, will 4 day work culture come in India also? ,

Tezzbuzz Desk- The Central Government has announced the new Labor Code, which is believed to be implemented from April 1. Many important provisions related to the welfare of employees have been included in the new law, which will directly benefit millions of working people. From gratuity to minimum wage and safety of women employees, major changes have been made in many rules.

Under the new Labor Code, the rules related to gratuity have been changed, giving great relief to the employees. Now it will not be mandatory to work for 5 years to get gratuity. The benefit of gratuity will be available even after completing one year of service. This change is considered especially beneficial for private sector and contract employees.

Clear provisions have been made in the new Labor Code regarding minimum wages, so that employees can get fair remuneration. Apart from this, rules regarding safety of women employees, working hours and facilities at the workplace have also been tightened.

Among all these, the most discussed issue is the 4-day work culture. The model of four days work and three days off has already been adopted in many countries like Japan, Spain and Germany. In such a situation, the question is arising whether this will be possible in India also?

According to a tweet by the Labor Ministry, the new labor code allows a four-day working model, provided employees work 12 hours a day. In this system, the remaining three days of the week will be considered paid holidays. However, this will not be mandatory, but will depend on the mutual consent of the companies and employees.

On November 21, the government had announced the implementation of four new labor codes by merging a total of 29 old labor laws. These are-

  1. Wage Code
  2. Industrial Relations Code
  3. social security code
  4. Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code

Their objective is to protect the rights of workers as well as increase ease of doing business.

The new labor codes are likely to affect more than 4 crore workers in the formal and informal sectors. Experts believe that these changes may see revolutionary changes in India’s labor laws.
