Big relief to Raj Thackeray from the court, acquitted of all charges in 2008 Railway Recruitment Movement case
Tezzbuzz Desk – Raj Thackeray has got a big relief in the famous Railway Recruitment Movement case of 2008. Thane Sessions Court acquitted him of all charges due to lack of evidence. The court said in its decision that the prosecution could not present sufficient and concrete evidence to prove the role of Raj Thackeray and the allegations made against him.
This case was related to the violence that took place at Kalyan railway station during the railway recruitment examination in 2008. It was alleged that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers had assaulted North Indian candidates and damaged railway property. In this case, a case was registered against seven people including Raj Thackeray.
The prosecution claimed that Raj Thackeray had created an atmosphere against non-local people through his speeches and statements. He was accused of instigating the workers by making statements like “People from outside states are snatching the jobs of Marathi youth”. However, the court admitted that sufficient evidence was not provided to prove these allegations.
Thane Sessions Court said in its decision that merely making allegations is not enough, but strong evidence is also necessary to prove them. The court found that the government side failed to establish the direct role of the accused in this case.
The last hearing of this case was held in December, when Raj Thackeray himself appeared in the court. During that time he had declared himself innocent and said that he would cooperate fully in the judicial process. Raj Thackeray was present in the court even on the day of the verdict.
After this decision of the court, there was an atmosphere of happiness among MNS workers and supporters. Supporters described it as “the victory of truth”. At the same time, the discussion about this decision has intensified in political circles also.
