Big relief to Rhea Chakraborty in Sushant Singh Rajput case, Supreme Court reprimands CBI

Rhea Chakraborty: The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the petition of CBI, Maharashtra State and Immigration Bureau regarding the look-out circular issued against Rhea Chakraborty and her family in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The Bombay High Court had already quashed this circular, but it was challenged in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court termed the petition as frivolous and strongly reprimanded the CBI.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan, while upholding the decision of the Bombay High Court, remarked that this petition was filed only because the accused are high-profile personalities. Giving a stern warning, the bench said that such frivolous petitions will have no impact on deeply rooted individuals in the society.

Look-out circular issue

In August 2020, a look-out circular was issued by the CBI against Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and their father Indrajit Chakraborty. Its objective was to prevent these people from leaving India or traveling abroad. Under this circular, they could be detained if they left the country.

Bombay High Court order

In February this year, the Bombay High Court struck down the circular, saying the reasons for issuing the circular were not clear and it was implemented without proper review. After this decision of the High Court, CBI and Maharashtra State filed a petition in the Supreme Court, which has now been rejected.

Supreme Court's strong comment

The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition in this case "Insignificant" Termed and said that such petition was filed only because of his high-profile background. The court warned and said, "You file frivolous petitions because the accused is a high-profile person, there will be a heavy price to pay."

Sushant Singh Rajput's death and case

Sushant Singh Rajput died in June 2020, and Rhea Chakraborty was in a relationship with him at that time. According to the official postmortem report, Rajput died due to suffocation due to hanging. Her family had lodged an FIR against Rhea, after which the case was handed over to CBI.
