Big revelation of money laundering in Nandigram, TMC leader Sufiyan’s son-in-law Habibur Rehman arrested, accused of embezzlement of crores.
News India Live, Digital Desk: In a major action, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Habibur Rahman, son-in-law of senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Sufiyan, in the famous Nandigram area of West Bengal. Habibur is facing serious allegations of being involved in money laundering and illegal financial transactions worth crores of rupees. After this arrest, there has once again been an uproar in the politics of Bengal, because Sheikh Sufiyan is considered very close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and was also her election agent during the Nandigram elections. ED raid at midnight, interrogation lasted for hours. According to sources, the Central Investigation Agency team had raided Habibur Rahman’s premises on the basis of strong input. After hours of intensive interrogation and scrutiny of documents, when Habibur could not give satisfactory answers, he was taken into custody. It is alleged that black money of influential political figures was being converted into white through Habibur. ED is now investigating those properties and bank accounts which are directly related to this network. The heat of the investigation reached Sheikh Sufiyan’s house. This arrest has increased the troubles of TMC leader Sheikh Sufiyan. Sheikh Sufiyan is the same leader who had prepared the strategy for Mamata Banerjee in the Nandigram assembly elections. The investigating agency suspects that political influence has been used behind Habibur’s business empire. The ED is trying to find out whether any part of the financial transactions in Nandigram and surrounding areas is linked to election activities or corruption. Transactions worth crores through shell companies Preliminary investigation has indicated that Habibur Rehman was associated with several shell companies which had no real business. These companies were used only for money manipulation. ED officials have recovered several digital evidence, diaries and papers of benami properties from Habibur. In the coming days, some more big faces may be accused in this case. TMC said that it was political vendetta. Trinamool Congress has reacted sharply to Habibur’s arrest. Party leaders say that the central government is targeting opposition leaders and their families by misusing central agencies (ED-CBI). TMC claims that BJP is taking such action to avenge the Nandigram defeat. At the same time, BJP has hit back saying that the agencies are doing their work against corruption and the culprits should not be spared.
