Jhalawar: A serious case related to human trafficking has come to light in Rajasthan, in which allegations of sending girls from economically weak families to Mumbai by luring them with employment have come to light. Police investigation has raised suspicion of trafficking of minor girls and their use for exploitation in the name of getting them work in dance bars. Several arrests have been made in the case and investigation is ongoing.

Many accused arrested in police action, 10 girls recovered

Police have launched a massive crackdown after an alleged human trafficking network linked to Jhalawar, Bundi and Tonk districts of Rajasthan was unearthed. During the investigation, six accused have been arrested with the help of Mumbai Police. Also, 10 girls were recovered, out of which eight are said to be minors.

According to police officials, preliminary investigation has revealed that some brokers used to target economically weak families. Arrangements were made to send their daughters to other cities by assuring the families of better employment and financial assistance. Later the possibility of exploitation of these girls came to light.

The deal was done by giving financial inducements to the families.

According to the investigating agencies, the accused allegedly lured the families with huge amounts of money. Families were contacted in the name of getting the girls jobs or working in dance bars. Police have also found documents in which there are allegations of taking signatures and thumb impressions from the parents.

Officials say that the recovered documents are being legally investigated. Police believe that these documents can prove to be important evidence in understanding the functioning of the alleged deals and network. Financial transactions and other aspects are also being investigated in the case.

Investigation done through social media and local networks

According to Jhalawar Police, investigation was started after inputs received from some settlements. Police had received information that many girls were out of their homes for a long time, but no formal complaint was lodged by the family members. After this a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed.

The help of social media accounts and other digital mediums was taken during the investigation. In the same sequence, information about the discovery of some girls in Mumbai came to light, after which the police of both the states took joint action. Police are now trying to find out for how long this network was active and who other people are involved in it.

Preparation for strict action against human trafficking

Police officials say that the case is being investigated at many levels. Necessary assistance and protection is being provided to the recovered girls. Besides, the concerned families are also being interrogated so that information about the entire network can be gathered.

Experts believe that economically weak families are often the targets of such gangs. Therefore, there is a need to raise awareness and file prompt complaints in cases of human trafficking. The police have appealed to the people to check complete information before sending children anywhere in the name of job, education or other opportunities and immediately report any suspicious activity to the administration.

Further investigation in the case is going on and police say that strict action will be taken against the culprits under the law.
