Big shock for Instagram users, end-to-end encryption is going to be removed from Meta, know what is going to change
Tezzbuzz Desk- Social media platform Meta has announced a big change for Instagram users. The company has confirmed that end-to-end encryption (E2EE) support will be removed from Instagram messaging after May 8, 2026. This could mean that in the future the company will have access to users’ chats.
Users are already being given information in the notice issued inside the Instagram app so that they can download their chats and media files. Meta said users whose chats will be affected by this change will see instructions in the app. For this, users of older version will have to update the app first.
End-to-end encryption is a security feature in which only the sender and recipient can read the message. In this system, every device has a digital key, which locks and unlocks the message. Even the platform company cannot read the messages during this process. But after May 8, this feature will change and the chances of the company getting access to users’ messages may increase.
Meta has not yet clarified whether this change will also apply to other platforms like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger in the future. However, the removal of E2EE on Instagram is likely to intensify the discussion regarding users’ privacy. It will be interesting to see how the company balances messaging security with this change.
Users are advised to download their important chats and media files before May 8, 2026 so that there is no data loss.
