New Delhi: The central government has taken a big decision to control and secure the online gaming sector. According to the latest report, a notification has been issued for the formation of a new regulatory body, Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI), under the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Act 2025, which will be effective from May 1, 2026.

The newly created Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) will function entirely as a digital office under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The main function of this organization will be to define online games, register them and ensure that all games operate as per the set rules.

The new authority has been given many important powers, which include. Identifying and classifying online games, conducting mandatory registration of gaming platforms, ensuring security of user data, issuing guidelines and taking action on violations of regulations, and maintaining transparency in the digital gaming industry.
