Big strategy of Congress regarding Punjab elections, no MP will get assembly ticket

Knews Desk- Congress has started finalizing its election strategy for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. The party is now preparing for major changes at the organizational level and in this sequence an important decision has come that no MP will be given ticket in the assembly elections.

According to sources associated with the party, this time the Indian National Congress is preparing to show more confidence in the new faces in Punjab. This strategy is said to be inspired by the strategy recently adopted in Kerala, where the Congress had shown better electoral performance by relying on local leadership.

Sources say that the party believes that fielding MPs in the assembly elections increases internal factionalism in the organization, which can affect the election preparations. For this reason, it has been decided that Lok Sabha MPs will not be given tickets for the assembly elections this time. Instead, the party plans to give all the big leaders and MPs the responsibility of strengthening the organization in their respective areas of influence and winning as many seats as possible. These leaders will be expected to play an active role in election management and campaigning.

The party is also working on a new formula for seat sharing in Punjab. According to sources, this time no quota of seats will be fixed for any big leader. Candidates will be selected on the basis of survey report, ground situation and recommendations of state in-charge. Apart from this, the party plans to give opportunity to a large number of new faces. To strengthen the organization and increase direct contact with the public, it is expected that more than half of the tickets will be given to new candidates. This step is considered important towards bringing new energy within the party and taking the youth leadership forward.

As another important strategy, ‘one family, one ticket’ formula is also being considered. Under this, a system of giving ticket to only one person from any political family can be implemented, so that dynasty and internal competition can be reduced. It is noteworthy that earlier in the elections held in Kerala also, Congress had adopted a similar strategy. There the party had not fielded Lok Sabha MPs in the assembly elections and had expressed confidence in the local leadership. As a result, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) returned to power with a spectacular performance.

In that election, UDF had won 102 seats, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had won 35 seats. NDA had won 3 seats. Congress alone made a strong comeback by winning 63 out of 140 seats. Seeing this success, now the party is trying to replicate the same model in Punjab so that better results can be achieved in the upcoming elections and the organization can be strengthened again in the state.
