game desk : Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, Gujarat Titans have made a major change in their coaching staff and appointed former Australian batsman Matthew Hayden as the new batting coach of the team. The franchise issued an official statement on Tuesday giving this information.
According to the press release issued by Gujarat Titans, the batting department is expected to get a lot of strength with the joining of an experienced player like Matthew Hayden in the team. Hayden, one of the most aggressive opening batsmen of his time, has a deep understanding of international cricket as well as modern T20 batting.
Team cricket director Vikram Solanki expressed happiness over Hayden’s appointment and said that it is an important step for the franchise. He said that Gujarat Titans is continuously focusing on strengthening its cricketing ecosystem and Hayden’s experience will give new direction to the team’s batting group.
Solanki said, “Matthew’s appointment comes at an important juncture in our journey. He brings top-level experience and his ability to mentor the young players will prove extremely beneficial to the team.”
Regarding his new role, Matthew Hayden said that strong batting can give any team an edge in the match. “Good batting creates pressure and great batting takes over the match. This is the standard we want to set at Gujarat Titans,” he said.
Matthew Hayden’s international cricket career has been very brilliant. He played a total of 272 matches for Australia in all three formats and scored 15,064 runs at an average of 47.82. During this period, 40 centuries and 69 half-centuries came from his bat. His highest score has been 380 runs.
Hayden also performed brilliantly in the 2007 T20 World Cup and became the highest run-scorer in that tournament. He scored 265 runs in six innings at an average of 88.33 and strike rate of 144.80.
Hayden had shown his batting prowess in IPL also. He scored 1,107 runs in 32 matches at an average of 36.90, including eight half-centuries. His best score was 93 runs and his strike rate was more than 137.
Gujarat Titans hope that with the experience and guidance of Matthew Hayden, the team’s batting will become stronger and the team will be able to perform better in IPL 2026.
