Big update in DAVV hostel vandalism case, 18 students who created ruckus identified, preparation for strict action
The university administration has decided to take a tough stand on the incidents of serious vandalism and disturbance that took place in a student hostel of Devi Ahilya University (DAVV), Indore. In fact, the university’s disciplinary committee has intensified its investigation into this entire episode and till now 18 students have been identified who created a ruckus in the hostel premises. The work of identifying the remaining unruly students is also going on at a rapid pace, after which notices will be issued simultaneously to all the concerned students and strict action will be taken against them.
In fact, recently the final year students had created a ruckus in Ramanujan Boys Hostel B of the IET department of the university, which set a serious example of indiscipline in the entire university campus. The students danced half naked on the song ‘Daru Badnam Kar Di’ and then caused huge damage to the hostel property. During this, they broke the chairs, tables, window glasses of the hostel and even the plastic water tank was damaged. A video of the entire incident quickly went viral on social media, forcing the university administration to take immediate action and raising the challenge of maintaining discipline on the campus.
University management immediately came into action mode
After the viral video surfaced, the university management immediately came into action mode and seriously considered this serious issue. The disciplinary committee had held an emergency meeting on the matter, in which it was decided to take strict action against the students so that such incidents are not repeated in future. The committee has decided to take strict action like imposing a fine of Rs 25,000 on each student, debarring them from appearing in the final examinations and withholding their examination results. At present, final year students have been prevented from appearing for their final exams, which will be conducted only after detailed investigation is completed.
A penalty of Rs 25 thousand will be imposed on each
Actually, while giving detailed information in this regard, IET Director Dr. Pratosh Bansal said that 18 students who vandalized the hostel have been identified. The work of identifying other students is also in progress and utmost care is being taken in this process. Dr. Bansal clarified that as soon as all the students are identified, notices will be issued to them together and a penalty of Rs 25,000 will be made from each. He also said that after this incident, no parents of any student have yet come to meet the university management, which is a matter of concern.
No action will be taken against these students
Dr. Bansal estimated that it may take two to three more days to identify the remaining students. This is because in the viral video many students are seen merely standing or dancing, while only a few were directly involved in the vandalism activities. The management clearly says that action will be taken only against those students who are found directly involved in sabotage activities and against whom there is strong evidence. It is also noteworthy that around 150 students reside in this hostel, making this incident a symbol of indiscipline in a large group. The university management is in no mood to show any laxity in this matter and is preparing to take strict steps to prevent such incidents in future.
