Big update regarding ‘Panchayat’ elections in Bihar!

Patna. Political activities have intensified in Bihar regarding the Panchayat elections to be held in 2026. This time the elections will be conducted with many historic changes, of which technical reforms and changes in the reservation system are the most important.

Use of multi post EVM for the first time

The biggest change is that electronic voting machines (EVM) will be used for the first time in Panchayat elections. The State Election Commission has started preparations for this. This time multi post EVM will be used, which will have six ballot units along with one control unit. With this, voters will be able to cast their votes for different posts like ward member, panchayat samiti member, sarpanch and mukhiya on the same machine. This technological change is expected to make the election process more transparent, quick and systematic.

New Reservation Roster and Delimitation

Major changes are also being made in reservation and delimitation in this election. There is a provision to change the reserved seats in Panchayati Raj institutions after two terms. Under this, there will be a major reshuffle in the seats of Zilla Parishad, Mukhiya, Panchayat Samiti member, Sarpanch, Panch and Ward member. Due to this, the current representatives will have to decide their political field and strategy afresh.

For example, in Banka district, there are 25 seats of Zilla Parishad, 182 seats of Mukhiya-Sarpanch, 246 seats of Panchayat Samiti and 2417–2417 seats of Ward Member and Panch. In these, 50% reservation has been implemented for all categories of women. With the implementation of the new roster, political activities have intensified.

Election preparations

According to media reports, the State Election Commission has started preparations for the elections with the new delimitation. The 2026 Panchayat elections are going to write a new chapter in the politics of Bihar from the point of view of technology, reservation and political equations.
