Big update regarding UP Panchayat elections, strict instructions issued

Lucknow. The administration has increased the strictness on the voter list regarding the three-tier Panchayat elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh. After the release of the final voter list, complaints of irregularities came to light from many districts, after which officials have been instructed to re-check and correct the list.

Taking cognizance of the complaints received regarding the voter list in Gonda district, the District Magistrate has directed all the Tehsil level officers to immediately correct any mistake in the list. The administration says that the priority is to prepare a completely pure and error-free voter list before the elections.

List of 12.58 crore voters released

State Election Commission has released the final voter list for Panchayat Elections 2026. A total of 12.58 crore voters have been included in this list. Compared to the previous Panchayat voter list, this time there has been a change on a large scale. During the revision drive, about 2.32 crore new names were added and 2.03 crore names were deleted. Overall, voters have increased by 29.01 lakh. The deleted names include those of deceased voters, people who have shifted to another place and wrongly registered names.

On which complaints will action be taken?

After the release of the final list, complaints came from many places that:

The name of the same person is recorded at more than one place.

The names of the dead people are still present in the list.

The names of women who lived elsewhere after marriage are recorded in the old village.

Names of voters of other Gram Panchayats are wrongly included.

The administration has made it clear that the names will be removed only after investigation. For this, applications and documents will be examined as per the prescribed procedure.

New preparations to stop fake voting

This time the use of technology is also being increased to make the Panchayat elections transparent. For the first time, State Voter Numbers (SVN) have been issued to all voters. Apart from this, there are preparations to take the help of Face Recognition System (FRS) to prevent fake voting, so that the identification process can be strengthened during voting.

Administration’s focus on clean voter list

The entire emphasis of the State Election Commission and the District Administration is to ensure that no major mistake remains in the voter list before the elections. Officials have been warned that responsibility will be fixed if negligence is found in handling complaints. Now the most important task before the Panchayat elections is to finalize the voter list, so that the election process can be completed in a fair and dispute free manner.
