Biggest error in the official website of Bihar! 21-year-old youth ‘saved’ emergency information including Aadhaar could have been leaked

A 21-year-old youth found a ‘catastrophic’ error in a Bihar government website. The young man named Prashant Kumar leaked the whole matter to the media. Around which sensation has spread.

According to an all-India media source, as the situation was, anyone could have extracted sensitive information such as Aadhaar number, pension details, government employee ID etc. from the website (Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission). Incidentally, the said website is used to take advantage of the government scheme of the concerned state. It is believed that such an important website was in such condition that hackers could have hacked it at any time.

As a context of how serious such a data leak can be, the website contained a database of very important information. Which includes Aadhaar number, phone number and PAN card details. Besides, bank account details like account number and IFSC code were also there for government projects that required bank accounts!

According to Prashant Kumar, the error is related to an SQL injection problem on a ‘forgot password’ page on the BMVM website. Due to this flaw, anyone who accesses the database without any login can modify or copy data and even delete data.

Incidentally, this is not the first sign of a major flaw being found on a government website. Earlier this year, Class XII students discovered serious security flaws in CBSE’s website. Which caused widespread outrage. In addition, concerns about data leakage have also increased. Recently, 1 terabyte of sensitive data of Bank of Baroda was leaked online for free.
