Bihar’s revenue crosses Rs 43,324 crore, GST collection increases by 9.2%

There was record revenue collection in Bihar in the last financial year. Bihar’s revenue crossed Rs 43,324 crore. Commercial Tax Department Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said that in the financial year 2025-26, the department has collected a record revenue of Rs 43,324.79 crore including GST, VAT and other sources. This is 4.09 percent more than Rs 41,623.96 crore of the previous financial year 2024-25.

Income of more than 32 thousand crores from GST

Departmental Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh said that out of the total collection, Rs 32,801 crore was received from GST. This is 11.7 percent more than last year. However, a deduction of Rs 724 crore was made by the Central Government to adjust the shortfall in IGST balance. After this the state’s GST collection remained at Rs 32,077.22 crore.

9.20 percent increase despite cuts

Despite the cut, GST collection in Bihar registered a growth of 9.20 percent, which is more than the national average of 6 percent. With this achievement, Bihar stood fourth in the country in terms of GST growth.

Strong performance in cash collection also

Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said that in the financial year 2025-26, the state has registered an increase of 10.60 percent in all cash collections including SGST, CGST, IGST and cess. In this matter, Bihar stood second in the country after Karnataka. He said that these figures are provisional and further increase is possible after the profession tax figures are released.

Better performance despite reduction in GST rates

Vijendra Prasad Yadav said that despite factors like reduction in GST rates and assembly elections, the department collected record revenue. In March 2026, an increase of 13 percent was recorded in GST collection in the state, while at the national level this increase was 5 percent.

Recovery comes from four main sources

Tax is collected by the Commercial Tax Department in four major categories. These include GST, VAT on petrol and diesel, electricity duty and commercial tax. The department collected a total of Rs 11,247.57 crore in non-GST items. This includes Rs 10,037.38 crore from VAT on petrol, Rs 983.81 crore from electricity duty and Rs 226.38 crore from profession tax.

Big achievement in registration also

Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav said that the Registration Department also performed brilliantly in the financial year 2025-26. The department collected revenue of Rs 8,403.46 crore against the target of Rs 8,250 crore, which is 101.86 percent of the target.

Nearly 10 percent increase compared to last year

In the financial year 2024-25, the Registration Department had collected Rs 7,648.88 crore (101.98 percent) against the target of Rs 7,500 crore. Thus, an increase of Rs 754.58 crore i.e. 9.86 percent was recorded in the current financial year.

Earning more than Rs 107 crore in one day

Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav said that on March 31 alone, 14,905 documents were registered, resulting in revenue of Rs 107.74 crore. Besides, the top five districts and offices receiving revenue from registration were also mentioned.
