Bihar CM Nitish Kumar: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar filed nomination for Rajya Sabha, Amit Shah’s presence enhanced the political message.
Patna. Today a big chapter has ended in the politics of Bihar and a new era has begun. Nitish Kumar, who made a record by taking oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar 10 times, has filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections 2026 on Thursday (March 5). During this high-profile nomination held in Patna, all the senior leaders of NDA including Union Home Minister Amit Shah were present. This decision of Nitish has not only made his supporters emotional, but has also cleared the way for the BJP Chief Minister for the first time in Bihar.
Show of strength in the presence of Amit Shah
When Nitish Kumar reached the Assembly on the last day of nomination for the elections for five Rajya Sabha seats, NDA’s solidarity with him was clearly visible. The presence of Home Minister Amit Shah is an indication that the transfer of power between the Center and the state is taking place with full consent. Nitish Kumar, who has been at the center of power in Bihar since 2005, will now play an active role in Delhi politics.
“The last wish of parliamentary life will be fulfilled”
Before the nomination, Nitish Kumar shared a very emotional message on the social media platform ‘X’. He wrote, “Since the beginning of my parliamentary career, it was my desire to become a member of both the Houses of the Bihar Legislature and both the Houses of the Parliament. Today that aspiration is going to be fulfilled.” Expressing his gratitude to the people of Bihar, he said that even though he is going to Delhi, his resolve to build a developed Bihar will remain firm and the new government will continue to get their full guidance.
Bihar will get its first BJP Chief Minister!
After Nitish Kumar left the post, now everyone’s eyes are on who will be the next ‘Captain’ of Bihar. Interestingly, Bihar has been the only state among the Hindi heartland states where till now BJP has not had its own Chief Minister. After the massive victory of NDA in the 2025 assembly elections, BJP has the upper hand and it is believed that the party will soon appoint one of its prominent faces to the post of Chief Minister.
Formal elections will be held on March 16
Voting for five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar is to be held on March 16. However, considering the current numerical strength of NDA in Bihar Assembly, it is almost certain that Nitish Kumar will be elected unopposed. Nitish had taken oath as Chief Minister for the 10th time on February 27 last year, but his departure to Delhi within just a year has surprised even political pundits.
