Nitish government’s big step regarding begging in Bihar, started beggary prevention campaign; Surveys started
Bihar News: Do you know that there is a scheme in Bihar which has been started with the aim of providing a dignified life to the people involved in begging. Yes, we are talking about the beggary prevention campaign which is being run by the Bihar government. Under this, the state government has launched ‘Chief Minister Beggary Prevention Scheme’ and ‘SMILE Scheme’ in the state through its Social Welfare Department.
Campaign started in 38 districts
The beggar survey campaign started on Friday, 27 February 2026 in all 38 districts of the state. This campaign was inaugurated by Bandana Preyashi, Secretary of Social Welfare Department and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of ‘Saksham’, through online video conferencing. Chief Executive Officer of ‘Saksham’ Yogesh Kumar Sagar was also present on this occasion.
How will the survey be conducted?
Under this campaign, beggars will be identified at all public places in the state like railway stations, bus stands, temples and other religious places. This includes men, women, children and transgenders.
Rajan Kumar was appointed
To speed up this survey work in Banka district, Rajan Kumar has been appointed as surveyor. He will go to the area and first record the information of the beggars in the hard copy form and later enter it on the online portal. Mobile apps are being used in this entire process so that the data is accurate and reliable.
campaign objective
The main objective of this campaign is not just to collect data. The government wants that people involved in begging should be connected to various welfare schemes and they can be rehabilitated. After the survey, these people will be linked to proper care, education and skill development programs. Its aim is that they become self-reliant and can come back into the mainstream of society.
How long will the survey last?
A target has been set to complete this survey in the state by March 30, 2026. During the campaign, an appeal has also been made to common citizens to give information about people involved in begging on toll free number 1800-345-6262. This will help the government to root out this social problem and steps can be taken towards creating a strong, empowered Bihar.
