Bihar: Horrific road accident in Katihar, 13 killed, 32 others injured in collision between bus and pickup van.
Katihar, 11 April. A horrific road accident took place between Dadpur and Basgara Chowk on National Highway-31 in Kodha police station area in Katihar district of Bihar on Saturday evening, when 13 people died and 32 others were injured in the collision between a bus and a pickup van. The condition of many of these injured is said to be serious.
A Scorpio and three bikes also got involved in the accident.
According to the information received, the accident occurred when a high speed bus going from Purnia to Bhagalpur went out of control near Basgada of Kodha and collided with a pickup van coming from the front. The collision was so strong that the pickup vehicle was completely damaged. A Scorpio and three bikes were also hit by the bus.
The deceased included a passenger on the pickup as well as a bike driver. All the people traveling on the pickup are said to be residents of Suhwa village under Mufassil police station area of Purnia district. These people were returning after worshiping from Bhognadih in Dumka, Jharkhand. There were about 35 people on the pickup.
Half a dozen people including the Scorpio rider and two other bike drivers have been injured in the incident. All the injured were first taken to the local hospital, from where in view of their critical condition, they were referred to a higher medical center. There was chaos at the spot after the accident. Relief and rescue operations were started with the help of local people. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and made arrangements to send the injured to the hospital for better treatment.

As soon as information about the accident was received, District Magistrate Ashutosh Dwivedi and Superintendent of Police Shikhar Chaudhary reached the post-mortem house and took stock of the situation. A huge crowd of relatives of the deceased gathered in the post-mortem house premises.
The DM said that the relatives of the deceased will be given an assistance of Rs 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, while the injured will be given Rs 50,000 each. During this time, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jitendra Nath Singh, DS Dr. Shambhu Chaudhary along with SDO, SDPO and other police officers were present on the spot.
CM Nitish Kumar and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav expressed grief
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences towards the deceased and has issued instructions to give ex-gratia grant of Rs 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the dependents of the deceased. At the same time, the injured will be given Rs 50,000 each as ex-gratia grant.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also expressed grief over this incident. He said that the news of the horrific road accident in Katihar due to collision between a bus and a pickup is sad and painful. Heart is deeply saddened by the untimely demise of 10 people in this horrific accident.
