Bihar is going to get a new Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar took oath as Rajya Sabha MP, NDA meeting is being held in Delhi.
New Delhi. In a major historic political development, senior leader Nitish Kumar took oath as Rajya Sabha MP on Friday. His way of handling coalition politics has been extremely important for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to remain in power in Bihar. This move to Rajya Sabha fulfills Kumar’s old desire to serve in every legislative house of India. Nitish Kumar resigned from his membership of Bihar Legislative Council after being elected to the Upper House of Parliament. Janata Dal (United) MLC Sanjay Gandhi has submitted the resignation of the Chief Minister of Bihar to Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh. With this change, the command of Bihar government has effectively passed into the hands of BJP. The move signals a significant structural change in the state’s power equations ahead of future elections.

A high-level meeting of Bihar BJP leaders is also being held in Delhi today, in which the further strategy for the new leadership of the state will be finalized. Nitish Kumar was elected to Rajya Sabha on 16 March. Along with him, four other candidates fielded by NDA from Bihar were also elected. After this, Nitish Kumar was also elected unopposed as the President of JDU, because no other candidate had filed his nomination for this post. However, as per constitutional provisions, Kumar can continue as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the next six months despite being elected as a Rajya Sabha MP. Given the rules, it was mandatory for him to resign from the MLC post within 14 days of being elected MP. Under Article 101 of the Indian Constitution—which deals with vacancy of seats. No person can hold both the posts of MLA/MLC and MP at the same time.
BJP national president Nitin Naveen clarified that there are no differences in the NDA over the pending matter of appointment of the new Chief Minister of Bihar. Nitish Kumar has been elected to Rajya Sabha. Naveen said that everything is progressing as per schedule. BJP has always respected the coalition dharma and that is why even today other parties trust us. Everything is being decided under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. Nitish Kumar is the longest serving Chief Minister of Bihar. Nitish Kumar first became the Chief Minister of Bihar in 2005 after starting his political journey as an MLA in 1985 and later serving as a Union Minister under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. He is one of the most experienced and senior political leaders of the country.
