‘I Am in Russia’: Bihar Man Claims He Was Named in NEET Protest FIR Despite Being Abroad for Four Months

A video from Bahadurganj area of Kishanganj district is going viral on social media, in which a young man is claiming that he has been living in Russia for the last four months. Despite this, he has been named in the case of protest against NEET paper leak.

The young man has named himself as Muhammad Sadaqat in the video. He has said that he is a resident of Ward-12 of Bahadurganj Nagar Panchayat.

What did the young man say in the video?

In the video, the young man says that on July 24, there was a protest against the NEET paper leak at LRP Chowk and the Bahadurganj administration has made him an accused in that case. He said, “There was a protest against the NEET paper leak on July 24. The Bahadurganj administration has put my name in that case, even though I have been in Russia for the last four months. I request the administration to remove my name. I will be grateful to the administration for this.” This video was shared on many social media handles, after which the matter came into discussion.

Is the video confirmed?

Could not independently verify the video. Similarly, the authenticity of the video has also not been officially confirmed yet. Many users on social media raised questions regarding this matter and claimed that the youth’s name was added to the FIR without thorough investigation. Some users also shared memes regarding this and used viral lines like ‘Bihar is not for beginners’.

What did the police say?

When Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla was asked about this viral video, he neither confirmed nor denied the youth’s claim. He said, “People with any kind of complaint related to the protest can contact the police. Their complaints will be resolved.”

NEET movement and Bihar government’s decision

This matter has come to light at a time when Bihar government has already announced to withdraw the cases related to NEET paper leak protests. The state government has said that all FIRs, complaints and show-cause notices filed before 6 am on July 26 will be withdrawn. Along with this, it has also been said that the people arrested in this case will be released. The decision came when various student organizations and opposition parties demanded withdrawal of cases registered against the protesters.

Action taken against how many people?

During the statewide bandh and protests, the police had detained a total of 694 people, almost half of whom are said to be minors. They were accused of enforcing the bandh and participating in the protests. Now that the government has announced the withdrawal of the cases, it will be important to see what action the administration takes in the case of the youth who made the claim in the viral video.

In this entire matter, so far only the video of the young man has surfaced. The police have not officially confirmed his presence in Russia or his name in the FIR. Therefore, this claim is currently being considered as an allegation/claim, which is yet to be investigated.
