Bihar News: CM Nitish Kumar’s government has prepared a concrete and comprehensive action plan regarding the increasing menace of stray dogs in urban and rural areas in Bihar. With the aim of providing relief to the common people from the increasing incidents of dog bites, especially in villages, the state government has decided to build a dog shelter. This step shows the seriousness of the government towards public safety and public health.
Panchayati Raj Department has important responsibility
On the instructions of CM Nitish Kumar, the Panchayati Raj Department has asked all the district councils to identify and make available suitable land for the construction of dog shelters in their respective areas. In this regard, a letter has been issued to the Deputy Development Commissioners and instructions have been given to the District Councils to start work on the scheme as soon as possible, so that the problem in rural areas can be effectively solved.
Dog shelters will be built in villages
Information-Public Relations Officer of Panchayati Raj Department, Vineet Sinha said that the dog shelter will be constructed as per the design and estimate prepared by the District Animal Husbandry Officer. Street dogs and abandoned dogs caught from rural areas will be kept in these shelters. The expenditure on its construction will be borne from the general fund of the Sixth State Finance Commission.

Arrangements for sterilization and vaccination also
This scheme of Nitish government is not limited only to catching stray dogs. Under this, arrangements will also be made for sterilization of dogs, anthelmintic drugs, rabies vaccination and immunization. For this, the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department will set necessary standards and procedures. Besides, a helpline number will also be issued at the Zilla Parishad level, so that common people can easily lodge complaints related to dogs.

Government also emphasizes on public awareness
Panchayati Raj Department has clarified that the role of public awareness is very important in dealing with the problem of stray dogs. Keeping this in mind, a comprehensive awareness campaign will be conducted at the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad level. Prevention of menace of street dogs will be raised as a major issue in the meetings of Ward Sabha and Gram Sabha.

Cleanliness and waste management will get a boost
Under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar, the government will also appeal for cooperation from the common people. People will be made aware that they should not throw leftover food in the open during wedding ceremonies, festivals and public events and dispose of it in a hygienic manner. Besides, the waste management system will be strengthened, so that the root causes of increase in the number of stray dogs can be effectively stopped.
